Welcome to Harbor Beach from the Mayor
Harbor Beach is truly a small town, with a small town atmosphere, yet 3.5 million people are within a tankful of gas from Harbor Beach. We are fortunate to have a solid manufacturing base, a strong tourist presence, and a multi-generational agricultural industry in the area.
When you arrive in Harbor Beach you will notice a friendly atmosphere. We are all proud of our 5 well maintained parks, two museums, a community center which includes a library and large theater used for concerts, plays and first run movies.
Our water treatment plant produces drinking water daily for the City of Harbor Beach and over 40 miles of shoreline residents.
Our waste water treatment plant not only provides city residents with this service but also has more than enough capacity to service our local industrial waste load.
Harbor Beach has a community hospital that offers 24-hour Emergency Room services with immediate and professional care, by on-site physicians. Named to the top 100 Best Places to Work in Health Care in the United States, Harbor Beach Community Hospital provides Outpatient Services that include: Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiopulmonary, Physical, and Occupational Therapy, surgical services, and a full laboratory. Our facility has an Extended Care Unit, and Rehab Unit for forty patients along with a fifteen bed acute care unit, both twenty-four hour skilled nursing care for medical and surgical specialties, geriatric and pediatric care. The hospital also operates two medical clinics, one in Harbor Beach, the other in Port Hope. The clinics employ Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Physicians, along with a Certified Physician Assistant. In addition to the clinics, the hospital offers a Walk In Clinic, which is open seven days a week.
The Harbor Beach Area Fire Department is a volunteer fire department with 21 members. An I.S.O. rating of five affords Harbor Beach residents the lowest possible homeowner insurance rates available.
Our police department is manned 24/7 with four full-time officers and five part-time officers.
The beautiful downtown shopping district, with a street scape completed in 2004 offers a great opportunity for leisurely shopping and dining along with a motel and bed and breakfast inns.
We have eight churches within the city with a wide range of Christian beliefs. Harbor Beach has three schools consisting of Harbor Beach Community Schools (Kindergarten thru twelve grade), Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School (preschool through 8 and daycare), and Zion Lutheran School (preschool through 8 and daycare).
Many organizations are active in Harbor Beach including the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, V.F.W., Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.
Harbor Beach has a 142 acre full service campground near a 114 slip full service marina. An asphalt bicycle/walking path connects the camping and marina areas to the shopping district and beach area.
Summer sports include softball and baseball all on manicured diamonds. Harbor Beach, a great place to visit, shop, dine, or live!
